Normal delivery, Birthing beds and Conscious Sedation Delivery System

In a bid to promote normal childbirth and to minimise risks from unforeseen circumstances, VMC has imported labour delivery beds from the UK, which facilitate comfortable birthing positions and a favourable birthing environment for the mother. At the request of the patient, the hospital also permits the patient’s loved ones to be present during the time of delivery; a practice that provides great relief and reassurance to the patient.
A majority of pregnant women fear the pain and anxiety of normal delivery. To counter this, and to facilitate a relaxed birthing experience for the mother, VMC has imported Conscious Sedation Delivery Systems from the USA. The equipment diffuses a mixture of Nitrous Oxide gas and Oxygen, which puts the patient in a state of mental relaxation, while still being conscious and active for a normal birth. Vijayalakshmi Medical Centre is the first hospital in India to use this equipment in Obstetrics analgesia.

Caesarean Section

At VMC, our Operation Theatre facility is available round the clock, allowing for emergency Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LSCS) at any given time. We also have the specialised services of a supportive and competent anaesthetist.

Hystero-Laparoscopic Surgery

While laparotomy necessitates larger incisions in the abdomen, a laparoscopic surgery is performed through small incisions, which are usually 0.5-1.5 cm in size. Also known as Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), Band Aid Surgery, or Keyhole Surgery, this modern surgical technique makes use of images displayed on TV monitors to magnify the surgical elements.

The MIS performed in the abdominal or pelvic cavities are referred to as laparoscopic surgeries, as opposed to thoracoscopic surgery, which is related to MIS conducted on the thoracic or chest cavity.
Laparoscopic surgery is a great deal easier on patients in comparison to an open procedure or laparotomy. Besides the reduced pain, thanks to smaller incisions and haemorrhaging, the recovery time is also very short.

Laparoscopic surgeries at VMC include:

Appendicectomy
Hydrocele repair (Adult & Paediatric)
Circumcision (Adult & Paediatric)
Thyroidectomy
Mastectomy with axillary clearance
Cholecystectomy
Biliary explorations
Haemorrhoidectomy
Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Hernia Repair (TEP, TAPP etc)

Urodynamic Study

VMC offers Urodynamics, a study aimed at diagnosing urinary incontinence, based on pathophysiology. The study involves evaluating the pressure-flow relationship between the bladder and the urethra for the purpose of defining the functional status of the lower urinary tract.

At VMC, our experts conduct urodynamic studies to assess the filling-storage phase and the voiding phase of bladder and urethral function. Provocative tests are also carried out to recreate symptoms and to gauge significant features of urinary leakage.

Some of the simple urodynamic tests performed at VMC are noninvasive uroflow study, postvoid residual (PVR) urine measurement, and single-channel cystometrography (CMG).
